Paper Dreams by Stephen Glover

This is the riveting story of the rise of THE INDEPENDENT and THE INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY; a story of professional journalism, but also a personal account of broken friendships and internecine wars within the company. Glover became editor of THE INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY but in June 1991 he resigned, along with several of his colleagues, following disagreements over the running of the paper. Andreas Whittam Smith, Matthew Symonds and Stephen Glover founded THE INDEPENDENT in 1986. It succeeded beyond anyone's expectations and became a leading business success story of the 1980's.
Stephen Glover became a freelance journalist after leaving Oxford, and travelled widely in Africa. In 1978 he joined the Daily Telegraph where he worked for seven years as a leader and feature writer, parliamentary sketch writer, and book reviewer, before leaving to help found the Independent. He is now associate editor of the Evening Standard. He is married to the actress Celia Montague. They have two sons and live in London.
