Francois and Lydia met on August 25, 1974, while he was working for Youth For Christ. He was nineteen and she was sixteen! Francois also served with Youth with a Mission for a year in 1978. Renaldo, Tehilla, Christo, and Stefan are their four wonderful children, as well as two adorable grandkids, Nicola and Christiaan. They married in January 1979 and have four wonderful children: Renaldo, Tehilla, Christo, and Stefan. They served in a full-time mission for fourteen years, during which time they also pastored a church and oversaw a five-year training program that served over 700 students.

They then left the ministry and worked in the tourism industry for ten years. They developed and maintained a Safari Resort in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve before relocating to Hermanus and launching Southern Right Charters, a boat-based whale watching company. Francois began writing God Believes in You in December of 2000, which led to his being called to speak at several Christian camps and churches. They have been traveling abroad and into Africa, as well as South Africa, on a regular basis since February 2004.

They moved from Hermanus to a rural property in the Swartberg Mountains in 2015 to devote their time on writing and translation. They've also halted the majority of their travel.
