Vincent J.Monastra, PhD, is the director of the FPI Attention Disorders Clinic in Endicott, New York, and is a clinical psychologist. He has done a series of research involving thousands of people with attention and behavioral control issues over the last 25 years. He is the inventor of the electroencephalograph (EEG)-based procedure that has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. A pioneer in the creation of parenting and EEG-based attention-training treatments, and the author of numerous scientific articles and book chapters, he was approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the diagnosis of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). His parenting book, Unlocking the Potential of Patients With ADHD: A Model for Clinical Practice (2008), was selected Parenting Book of the Year in its first edition, and his book, Unlocking the Potential of Patients With ADHD: A Model for Clinical Practice (2008), offers a model for complete, effective, and practical community-based care for patients with ADHD.

His abilities as a master diagnostician and therapist have been acknowledged internationally, and various instructive audiovisual programs, such as Dealing With Children With ADHD (2005), have been archived. He has taught at Wilson Hospital's Family Practice Residency Program, Binghamton University's Department of Psychology, and, most recently, Marywood University's Graduate School of Counseling and Clinical Psychology. For his seminal research into the neurophysiological aspects of ADHD and his ground-breaking studies on EEG biofeedback, he has received various scientific prizes, including the President's Award and the Hans Berger Award. In the Reader's Digest 2004 edition of Medical Breakthroughs, he was named one of the country's most inventive researchers.
