Namita Gokhale is an Indian writer and co-founder and co-director of the famed Jaipur Literature Festival. She is the author of twenty-five works of fiction and non-fiction. Gokhale’s re-telling of the foundational Indian epic the Mahabharata, for young readers, (Puffin Books) has been consistently popular since its publication in 2009. Recent works include The Treasures of Lakshmi - The Goddess Who Gives, Never Never Land and Life in Mars. Gokhale’s work spans several genres, including novels, short stories, Himalayan studies, mythology, edited anthologies and a play. She is the recipient of many prizes, including the prestigious Sahitya Akademi (National Akademi of Letters) award for her novel Things to Leave Behind.
