Passing it on by Susan G Baker
In Passing It On, Susan Baker sums up all that really matters in life from the lessons she has learned as a devoted wife, loving mother, friend to all, and tireless advocate for the well-being of every family. It is hard to write only a few sentences about a friend as dear to me as Susan. I always say that my husband has no dark side, and I truly think of Susan in the same light. I enjoyed reading her encouraging autobiography that is filled with lots of love and joy, selfless giving, and ways to lead a life of faith--elements we can all pass on -- Barbara Bush, Former First Lady and Literacy Advocate In this fascinating and fun memoir Susan Baker truly does 'pass it on.' She passes on wisdom of how to deal with a blended family, troubled teens, a perpetually on the go husband and a cancer diagnosis. Her spirit shines through these pages--not only the spiritual gift of faith that has allowed her to meet life's challenges but also the spiritedness that gives her the gumption to take on powerful interests on behalf of the homeless and children. Baker inspires us all to pass along whatever gifts we have to those who need them.-- Cokie Roberts, news analyst and author
Susan Baker grew up on a ranch in Texas and spent her life in high political circles. After a disastrous first marriage, she blended her young family with that of the recently widowed James A. Baker III. As the Bakers worked to bring their five children together, his political career began to rise, bringing him into the sphere of Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush and eventually to influential positions as Chief of Staff, Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary of State. Navigating the waters of big city Texas, Washington, D.C., and eventually the globe, Susan found that only her strong Christian faith enabled her to survive the constant unpredictable changes. Once she centered on this reality, she could reach out to others through the Parents Music Resource Center and the First Lady's Prayer Group, and to people of all faiths to coordinate an important multi-national, multi-religion prayer meeting in Jerusalem.
