Janak Jani was born in London and spent part of his childhood in France and East Africa, before going on to read philosophy at Cambridge. He lived, worked and travelled in over 20 countries in four continents until, enchanted by the magic of Valparaiso, he decided to settle down. He now owns and runs a guesthouse there with his wife, Lorena. Australian-born Lucy E Cousins has visited over 30 countries from Jordan to Venezuela, travelling by bus, bicycle, canoe, Amazon ferry and on foot, and has lived in London, Bolivia and Argentina. In 2004, while backpacking for a year around South America, she fell in love with Buenos Aires. Two years later she moved there to start her own English-language newspaper called The Argentimes. She has since worked as the editor of the Buenos Aires pages of ontheroadtravel.com, and the South American Explorers magazine and is the director of the Buenos Aires office of the South American Explorers. She has previously written for Conde Nast Traveller, Timeout and several other publications in Buenos Aires, Australia and Bolivia.
