Patriot Battles by Michael Stephenson

War during the time of the American Revolution was very different from today. Soldiers were armed with little more than flintlock muskets. Food preservation, a technology that is now essential to keeping an army fed, was in its infancy. And casualties had to be treated without modern surgical techniques, antibiotics or even anesthesia.

Military and history enthusiasts alike will be fascinated by Patriot Battles, Michael Stephenson's investigation into how our founders fought. This comprehensive, one-volume study provides both a general analysis of the process of fighting a war in the eighteenth century, and a more detailed look at the major battles of the Revolution. With groundbreaking research and detailed maps, Patriot Battles is an innovative, in-depth look at the war that started a nation. Michael Stephenson is the former editor of the Military Book Club and the editor of National Geographic's Battlegrounds: Geography and the History of Warfare. He lives in New York City. "Even readers familiar with the military history of the Revolution will find fresh insights in Stephenson's accounts of the major battles."-- Boston Globe
