Paul Feiler by Susan Daniel-Mcelroy

German-born artist Paul Feiler (born 1918) has been associated with the Modernist artists of the St Ives School since the 1940s. This publication accompanies an exhibition of paintings made during the Feiler's 60 year career. His early textural abstract paintings inspired by the surrounding landscape and the zeitgeist of American abstraction explore the geometry of natural form and space. By the 1960s these works had distilled into purely abstract, almost architectural arrangements of recessive spaces which play with contrapuntal forms. Psychologically engaging, Paul Feiler's paintings present a quiet spirituality.
