PAVILION BOOK OF PAVILIONS by Jonathan Rice
Cricket pavilions can be large, medium or small, but their size is no real gauge of the pleasures that lurk within. They can be brick and concrete, lath and plaster, or in some cases even cardboard and corrugated iron. They are light and friendly, dingy and threatening, fully-equipped with a bar and historic photographs or barely sanitary with a splintery floor. They stand proudly at the edge of some of the most beautiful landscape in Britain, or hide guiltily beneath the glowering factory chimney of some Victorian industrialist's ambitions. A selection of 50 such pavilions is examined in this book. It is a personal selection which aims to reflect the national and local passion for the game of cricket.Jonathan Rice is the author and compiler of numerous cricket books, including Kent v Lancashire 1906, The Wisden Collector's Guide, Wisden on India, and Wisden on Grace. He is the chairman of the County Cricket History Forum, the Lord's Taverners' chairman from 2006 to 2008, and the president of Kent County Cricket Club in 2018.
