The Penguin Book of First World War Prose by Jon Glover
A companion to the Penguin book of World War 1 poetry, this anthology reflects how society itself was changed by war. It is divided thematically into the case for war, disillusion versus idealism, action versus stoicism and includes selections from the novels of war writers such as Robert Graves, Ernest Hemingway, Bertrand Russell, D.H. Lawrence, Erichmaria Remarque, Richard Aldington and and in a section entitled close quarters, letters from, among others, Wilfred Owen.Jon Glover was born in the city of Sheffield in the year 1943. In 1962, he moved to Leeds to study after growing up in Surrey/South London. He has lived in Leeds and Bolton, Lancashire, ever since, with the exception of a pivotal year in America in 1966-67 and many summers in Upstate New York with his wife, children, and her family. He's released four volumes with Carcanet and two pamphlets of poetry with Northern House. He co-edited The Collected Poems of Jon Silkin (Northern House Carcanet, 2015) with Kathryn Jenner. He is the Advisory Editor of Stand magazine and oversees Carcanet's Northern House volumes.
