After the Torah, the Koran and the Gospels, the Indian literature of "The Perfection of Wisdom" has had the greatest impact on the religious consciousness of mankind. Its composition extended for over seven hundred years, and here we offer the reader the first two works which were composed in South India between 100 B.C. and A.D. 100.

These documents are not only indispensable to those who wish to undersand the mentality of the East, they still carry a potent spiritual message; and those who desire to diminish their personal worries by the disciplined contemplation of spiritual truths could make no better choice.

Asked what Buddhism should do to become more acceptable to Americans, I used to enumerate with a smile a few concessions one might perhaps make respectively to the feminist, democratic, hedonistic, primivistic and anti-intellectual tendencies of American society. Sau đo, nhờ Heinrich Rickert, ong co dịp lam quen với Thiền tong. Năm 1928, ong lam luận an tiến sĩ tại Koln. Năm 1932, ong cho xuất bản tac phẩm Phương thức đối lập. Binh luận về ly thuyết Duy vật biện chứng. Vi những hanh vi chống Đức quốc xa nen ong phải rời CHLB Đức vao năm 1933, sang tị nạn tại Anh quốc, va khong lau sau, ong nhập quốc tịch Anh. Từ năm 1933 trở đi, ong dạy tam ly va triết học tại Oxford va London. Cac tac phẩm của Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki va một học giả Ấn Độ la Har Dayal lại hướng dẫn ong trở về với Phật giao. Từ năm 1943 đến 1949, ong nghien cứu rất nhiều về Ấn Độ học, gia nhập Hội Phật giao tại London va cũng tổ chức nhiều buổi thuyết giảng. Trong những năm sau chiến tranh thế giới lần thứ hai, ong cho xuất bản khoảng 20 quyển sach va hơn 100 tiểu luận về những vấn đề của Phật giao, va chinh những tac phẩm nay đa lam cho ten tuổi ong lan truyền khắp thế giới. Ong đa từng thuyết giảng tại Wisconsin, Madison, Washington, Seattle, Bonn, Berkeley, Santa Barbara... Năm 1973, Conze ngưng việc thuyết giảng, lui về sống tại Sherborne, Somerset, va từ đo chuyen chu vao việc nghien cứu Phật học. Trọng tam nghien cứu của ong la triết ly Bat-nha, va về chủ đề nay, ong đa xuất bản hang loạt tiểu luận. Ong cũng đa dịch sang Anh ngữ va xuất bản nhiều kinh văn thuộc hệ nay. Năm 1979, ong cho ra đời quyển hồi ky với tựa đề The Memoirs of a Modern Gnostic, trong đo ong tự cho minh la một người co ca tinh mau thuẫn. Conze co một cai nhin, một cảm nhận sau sắc cho những vấn đề, nhan sinh quan khac biệt của thế kỷ nay. Quyển hồi ky của ong đa chứng tỏ khả năng nghệ thuật dung hợp nhiều quan điểm của ong. Ong mất ngay 24 thang 9 năm 1979 tại Yeovil, Somerset, London.
