Nicholas Perricone, MD, FACN, is a board-certified dermatologist who specializes in clinical and research dermatology. Dr. Perricone was a remarkable student who completed medical school in just two and a half years, graduating first in his class. He completed his Pediatric Internship and Dermatology Residency at Yale Medical School and Ford Medical Center, respectively. The Inflammation Hypothesis of Aging is credited to Dr. Perricone as its founder. He is the author of The Wrinkle Cure (Rodale Reach, May 2000), which was a New York Times bestseller.
In May of 2001, Warner Books released the trade paperback edition. On March 24, 2002, it debuted at #1 on the New York Times and Los Angeles Times bestseller lists, where it remained for four weeks. Around one million copies have been printed. His PBS-TV show of the same name is one of Public Television's most successful fundraisers.
Dr. Perricone is a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. He is also certified by the American Board of Dermatology. In addition, he is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Society of Investigative Dermatology. He won the 2002 Eli Whitney Award, which is given yearly to an excellent individual who has made a substantial contribution to science. Igor Sikorsky (creator of Sikorsky aviation) received the National Medal of Science for inventing the first practical helicopter, which laid the foundation for today's helicopter industry, and Buckminster Fuller, who invented the geodesic dome, the lightest, strongest, and most cost-effective construction yet built.
Dr. Perricone is the inventor of dozens of US and foreign patents for the treatment of skin and systemic disease, as well as the use of topical anti-inflammatories to reverse and prevent skin damage caused by age, the sun, the environment, hormonal changes, and other factors. He is the author of multiple scientific papers that detail the findings of his research, as well as a contributing editor for the peer-reviewed medical magazine Skin and Aging and a member of the editorial board of Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics. He is the Chairman of the International Symposium on Aging Skin, an annual meeting where researchers from all over the world gather to share their most recent scientific achievements in the prevention of aging and aging skin.
