Summary

"How many times have I told you never to leave the gate open?" Grandfather asks Peter. "What would you do if one day a wolf came out of the forest?", but hardly has he spoken these words, when a lean and hungry wolf comes slinking from the cover of the trees.

Peter And The Wolf by Hastings S

"How many times have I told you never to leave the gate open?" Grandfather asks Peter. "What would you do if one day a wolf came out of the forest?" But hardly has he spoken these words, when a lean and hungry wolf comes slinking from the cover of the trees...Selina Hastings has taken this oft-told traditional story, perhaps most famous for being set to a dramatic score by Prokofiev, and breathed new life into it. Accompanied by Reg Cartwright's striking illustrations of the cold, forested landscape, this is a truly captivating version.
"True to the mood and the atmosphere of the original folk-taleSelina Hastings' dignified re-telling is matched perfectly by Reg Cartwright's marvellous vignettes... He's never been better." Books for Keeps; "Reg Cartwright's pictures, beautifully stylized, splendidly designed and full of quiet fun, are an unfailing delight... an outstanding book." The Junior Bookshelf

Reg Cartwright is a successful painter as well as illustrator of children's books, often in partnership with his wife, Ann. Among his titles are Birds, Beasts and Fishes, a Walker anthology of verse, and Mr Potter's Pigeon, winner of the Mother Goose Award.
