Peterborough Royal Foxhound Show by Michael Clayton
Since 1878, the acknowledged 'Temple of the Foxhound' has been the annual Foxhound Show at Peterborough. Hound lovers from all over the world attend, admiring the conformation and movement of hounds exhibited by leading breeders. Michael Clayton, former Editor of "Horse and Hound", has produced an informative and remarkably entertaining history of the Royal Foxhound Show, with a wealth of anecdotes. The author writes with knowledge and affection of the foxhunting world's leading personalities, their foibles and eccentricities, the beautiful hounds and the skills and commitment involved in producing the modern breed. There are contributions from leading hound breeders, judges, and stewards, including Martin Scott, Simon Clarke, Alastair Jackson, Tim Unwin, Brian Fanshawe, Lord Kimball, Dermot Kelly, Roy Bird, Secretary of the Show for 40 years, US Master and huntsman Hugh Robards, and former Whaddon Chase huntsman Albert Buckle who retired, aged 90, in 2005 after 50 years as an assistant steward.
Formerly an international newspaper, TV and radio reporter, Michael Clayton was Editor of Horse & Hound for 25 years. He is a student of foxhound breeding, and has reported Peterborough Royal Foxhound Show for over 30 years. He is author of a number of successful books including The Glorious Chase (Swan Hill 2005).
