A Philosophical Investigation by Philip Kerr

London, 2013, and the city is battling an epidemic of serial killings - even with the widespread government use of DNA detection, brain-imaging, and the 'punitive coma'. Detective Isadora 'Jake' Jacowicz is hunting a murderer, code-named 'Wittgenstein,' who has taken it upon himself to eliminate anyone who has tested positive for a tendency towards violent behaviour - even if they've never committed a crime. His intellectual brilliance is matched only by his homicidal madness.
Chilling..absorbing...part techno-thriller, part futuristic detective story, part diary of a serial killer - The New York Times Book Review

One of the more imaginative thrillers in quite a while...Combines teleological speculations with nitty-gritty futuristic police work - Wall Street Journal

A truly intellectual thriller that makes the brain cells as well as the hairs on the back of the neck tingle - GQ

The brainest thriller to come along in years...raising questions about knowledge, proof, and reality in unnervingly dramatic contexts - Kirkus Reviews
Philip Kerr has written over thirty books of which the best-known are the internationally renowned and bestselling Bernie Gunther series. The sixth book in the series, If the Dead Rise Not, won the CWA Historical Dagger. His other works include several standalone thrillers, non-fiction and an acclaimed series for younger readers, The Children of the Lamp. Philip died in March 2018, days before the publication of his 13th Bernie Gunther thriller, Greeks Bearing Gifts. He was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature shortly before his death.
