Picture A Poem by Gina Douthwaite

Meet 'Normous Norman, Thin Tim, Sidney the Kidney and all the other people, animals and objects whose shapes are created by the text of their poems. Here are somersaulting poems, rocket-launching poems, hair-styling poems and poems that simply delight and surprise. Gina Douthwaite's ingenious words leap, dance, sweep and creep their way across the pages in a visual feast created by startling and innovative typography. A perfect way to introduce children to the amazing possibilities of poetry.
Born in Cottingham, East Yorkshire, in 1947, Gina has spent most of her working life in the countryside as a field technician with the Ministry of Agriculture. After qualifying as a creative writing tutor, she set up and continues to run creative writing workshops for adults and for children. For several years now Gina has been a Literature Adviser to the Regional Arts Board. Married with two daughters and two loveable dogs, Gina remains in Yorkshire surrounded by fields, trees and rolling hills, allowing her to focus on what she loves best, reading, walking, and writing.
