Pictures from Mayhew. by John Seed
Pictures from Mayhew takes the voices reported by Henry Mayhew in the mid-19th century and splices them together into poems, allowing the voices space and a chance to communicate again to another age. Every word in the book is drawn from Mayhew's transcriptions.
John Seed was born in 1950 and brought up in the North-East of England. He has lived and worked in London as a historian since 1983. This book, his sixth poetry collection poetry, brings together his research on the social history of London and his continuing explorations of the Objectivist aesthetic represented in the work of Williams, Oppen and Reznikoff, among others.
