Pig Did it by Joseph Caldwell
If both McCourts and Roddy Doyle were locked in a room with a barrel of Guinness and some pens, this is the 'very' funny and clever comedy they might write together. Readers are all going to have their favourite scene: The pub dartplaying scene; the frantic hiding of Declan's bones in the basement fiasco; the final wake scene; and the one everpresent 'character' - a pig. The oinker is at the center of the feuds of the four main characters and the cause of, perhaps, a happy ending. And, to top if off, this novel is infused with beautiful descriptions of the lush Irish land and seascape.
Joseph Caldwell, author of the five well-reviewed novels over almost twenty years, has been awarded the Rome Prize for Literature by the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
