Pitch by Todd Boss
With poems about loss, home, marriage, and the inner music of our lives, Pitch is a series of variations on an overturned piano. By turns bright and dark like the keys on a keyboard, these poems demonstrate the range of one of contemporary poetry’s most musical poets, a master of internal rhyme. from “Overtures on an Overturned Piano” . . . our hi-beams played across the gleaming bed of snowdrifted bramble where it lay, moaning chaotically . . .
"Boss' poems generate their own rambunctious music and remind us 'yes, / miracles happen'" "The poems ring clearly; 'pitch,' they recall, is a way to fall as well as a way to sing." "Boss flawlessly employs subtle music." "This is poetic form within and without that makes a true energy."
Todd Boss is the author of three previous collections of poetry, most recently Tough Luck. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, American Poetry Review, and other publications. Still nomadic, Boss has most recently been based in Phoenix, Arizona, and Austin, Texas.
