Playmates by Robert B Parker
Nothing bad ever happens in charming Old Quebec City, at least not until surf bum Paul Wainscott comes to town. Now, dead bodies--including a street mime with a dummy act--are popping up like surfboards after a killer wave. To make matters worse, Paul has only a few months to make his new building profitable or he'll lose everything. Lucky for him, there's a derelict wax museum in his basement, and everybody knows they're practically a license to print money-right? With the help of his new friend and business partner-a loopy octogenarian named Dottie-he unravels the mystery behind a priceless antique tapestry and two seemingly unrelated murders, all while systematically sampling every pastry in town.
Robert B. Parker was the author of seventy books, including the legendary Spenser detective series, the novels featuring police chief Jesse Stone, and the acclaimed Virgil Cole-Everett Hitch westerns, as well as the Sunny Randall novels. Winner of the Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Award and long considered the undisputed dean of American crime fiction, he died in January 2010.
Ace Atkins is the Edgar-nominated author of nineteen books, including the forthcoming Quinn Colson novel The Innocents. He was selected by the Robert B. Parker estate to continue the Spenser novels, most recently the New York Times bestsellers Robert B. Parker's Kickback and Robert B. Parker's Cheap Shot.
