The Pole-seekers by Meredith Hooper
The year is 1901 and as men begin their journey to the South Pole, a company of rats on board their ship are about to do the same. This extraordinary children's story tells of the first expedition to the Antarctic from a rat's point of view.
WHAT THE CRITICS SAID OF THE JOURNAL OF WATKIN STENCH: 'Emphatically written. . We experience the raw hardships and extreme difficulties affecting the horrifyingly interwoven lives of rats and men. A good read.' - Books for KeepsThis clever spoof history certainly deserves to be included among the host of celebratory books on early Australian history. - Growing PointIn his pert, lively, observant and sometimes lyrical style, Watkin records the bleakness and strangeness that faced the pioneer newcomers. - Naomi Lewis in TES
