Polite Forms by Harry White

Polite Forms was written between January, 2008 and June, 2011. Although the whole sequence is, perhaps self-evidently, it is a meditation on family life written from the perspective of a man in his early fifties.

Harry White was born in Dublin in 1958. He was educated in Dublin and Toronto, where he was awarded the University of Toronto's E.J. Pratt medal for poetry in 1984. He is Professor of Music at University College Dublin and well known for his work as a musicologist and cultural historian. Among his academic publications are Music and the Irish Literary Imagination (Oxford, 2008) and The Encyclopaedia of Music in Ireland (Dublin, 2013), which he edited with Barra Boydell. He published his first collection of poems, Polite Forms, with Carysfort Press (Dublin) in 2012.
