Pongwiffy and the Pantomime by Kaye Umansky
Pongwiffy and the Witches' Coven are in desperate need of funds, but are bored with all the usual fundraising ideas - barn dances, quiznights, paintyourbroomstickinafunnywaydays. Then Pongwiffy has a brainwave. The Witches can put on a pantomime! The inhabitants of Witchway Wood will love it! What can go wrong? Eventually, after all the jostling for the major parts and the rehearsing, the stage is set and the curtain ready to rise but where is the director, Pongwiffy? And can the show go on? A laugh-out-loud story that is witty and clever, enticingly mixed in with much sludge, slime and very bad habits.
'Brought roars of both delight and disgust an ebulliently uninhibited farce' Guardian 'This will appeal to the delicious anarchy in children' Prima 'Jokey enough to persuade reluctant readers there is pleasure to be had from dipping into books' Guardian 'Young readers adore the jokes and the grubbiness' Daily Telegraph
Kaye Umansky was born in Plymouth, Devon. Her favourite books as a child were the Just William books, Alice in Wonderland, The Hobbit and The Swish of the Curtain. She went to Teacher Training College, after which she taught in London primary schools for twelve years, specialising in music and drama. In her spare time she sang and played keyboards with a semi-professional soul band. She now lives in North London and writes full-time - or as full-time as she can get in between trips to Sainsbury's and looking after her husband (Mo), daughter (Ella) and her cats.
