Porch by Richard Grant

No one knows for sure when porches originated, but their purpose is universal. What could be better then coming home after a long day and relaxing on your porch? Resting in comfort, looking out at the sea, the woods, or even your own yard can improve your mood and lift your spirit. There is something wonderful about extending the living space of your house outdoors. There is something magical about porches. Bringing together the stunning images of award-winning photographer Brian Vanden Brink and the evocative words of author Richard Grant, these porches are the stuff of dreams, inspiration, and escape.
BRIAN VANDEN BRINK has been photographing architecture for more than twenty-five years and his work has been widely featured in magazines such as Architectural Digest, Architectural Record, Dwell, Design New England, Coastal Living, Cottage Living, The New York Times Magazine, Old House Journal, Custom Home, and Down East; as well as in several books, including Ruin, a monograph of his photography. He lives in Camden, Maine, with his wife Kathleen. RICHARD GRANT is the author of eight novels and two works of nonfiction. His work has appeared in the Washington Post, the San Francisco Chronicle, and numerous other publications. He lives in Lincolnville, Maine.
