Portrait of the Artist by Jorge Lewinski

For over 30 years from 1962 to 1995 Jorge Lewinski has been photographing Britain's most important artists. With over 150 portraits, this volume shows the range of his considerable output. Lewinski often returned to photograph the same artist over a number of years and these portraits catalogue not only the lives of the artists themselves but also the changing styles of British art during this period. Lewinski's images invariably show artists in their studios, giving an insight into their creative processes and working lives. The book is an important and fascinating document of an exciting period in the history of British art.
Jorge Lewinski was born in Poland and came to Britain in 1942. A Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, he has been a professional photographer since 1968. Until 1982 he taught photography and history of art at the London College of Printing.
