Ports and Harbours of Northumberland by Stafford Linsley
Dr Linsley evokes the sometimes turbulent history of the ports and harbours along the Northumberland coast, from its simple fishing villages to the great industrial harbours built on export coal.
Stafford Linsley was born to a coal-mining family in Co. Durham. He completed a student apprenticeship with a Tyneside engineering company, before studying mechanical engineering at the University of Sheffield. In 1971 he joined the Adult Education department (now the Centre for Lifelong Learning) at the University of Newcastle, where he was a Lecturer in Industrial Archaeology until his retirement in 2002. He was a founder member of the Association for Industrial Archaeology.
