Pot Luck - Living the Dream in the West Country by Jennifer Bell
Pot Luck - Living the Dream in the West Country: We started a pottery - well, why not? A holiday in Cornwall had cast a spell over us - an ancient land of standing stones, huddled cottages in bosky meadows, wind-blown cliffs. Why live in a dreary city when there was an alternative? We put our flat up for sale, sent our furniture down to Penzance and made a plan. It wasn't quite as easy as that. It took 5 years and 2 children before we could begin. This is the story...
By training I am a nurse but the course of my life, hardly a career, seems to have been dictated by 'House for Sale' signs. First the long search for the pottery. Then the chance finding of 'The House on the Green' in Lustleigh, where we ran a B&B for 10 years. Another 10 years on a wilder part of Dartmoor, the result of getting lost; a smallholding with 18 magical acres and a garden to make. Now retired in a riverside cottage, found, again by chance, on a long walk, I am free, comparatively, to follow my passions. My time is filled with gardening, writing and dress-making for my three granddaughters.
