The Practical Beading Book by Lucinda Ganderton

Presented in an easy-to-follow, step-by-step format with techniques to suit all levels, clear instructions and over 450 colour photographs, this volume offers the skills and inspiration to create original and exquisite bead jewellery, accessories and decorations. Beads have been used for decoration, protection and proof of status for centuries, and their simplicity yet incredible range and versatility make them irresistible materials for crafters, artists, jewellery makers and interior designers. The book brings together an evocative history, a manual of techniques, and over 70 projects using a crafting skill that has been used in many cultures for hundreds of years. After an introduction providing a historical overview and background, the book opens with a section covering everything you will need to know about materials, equipment and skills. The techniques taught include how to make beads, how to use a bead loom and how to apply and use the many jewellery fixings available. In the following project sections, classic beadwork is used to create beautiful jewellery and personal accessories as well as covers, fringing, borders and hangings. The projects cover a wide variety of traditional and contemporary styles, from a Victorian-look brooch to a beautiful art deco beaded screen and a fabulous ultra-modern beaded chandelier.
