Practical Saddle Fitting by Ken Lyndon-Dykes
Equipping both horse and rider with the right saddle is one of the most crucial aspects of equestrian sport. The saddle must be comfortable for both parties and allow the horse maximum freedom of movement. It must provide the rider with security and with the basis for adopting and adapting the appropriate posture in accordance with the demands of the discipline(s) for which it is used. The saddle should be well constructed from good quality materials and, in most cases, capable of some degree of adjustment. Written by a qualified saddle fitter who was also a top event rider, "Practical Saddle Fitting" is a comprehensive and authoritative guide. The key topics include: the basic purpose of the saddle, the underlying needs of horse and rider and the saddle fitter's role; the design and continuing development of major components, and the materials used in saddle making; the types and designs of saddles for the various ridden disciplines, including specialities such as polo, racing, endurance and side saddle; and, the stages of the fitting process, bespoke fitting, fitting problems and remedial fittings. There are also general observations on the relationship between client and fitter, and on relevant issues of safety and commonsense. The text is illustrated with 160 colour photographs and line drawings.
