Predator: Life & Death in Africa by Mark Ross
Predator is a field guide to the predators of the African bush. Each chapter is devoted to a predator - lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas and crocodiles - and delves into their biology and behaviors, how and when to observe them, interesting facts and statistics. The photos show both common and rarely seen behaviors, gorgeous scenery, as well as the more awesome and gruesome stalk-attack-kill behaviors.
Mark Ross is the author of Dangerous Beauty, a biologist, a photographer, a bush pilot and a safari guide based in Kenya, where he has spent more than twenty years. His original essay, "The Last Safari," was included in The Best American Travel Writing 2000, edited by Bill Bryson. He is on the lecture circuit with a variety of zoos, as well as National Geographic, in the U.S.
