
The Price of Glory by Alistair Horne
An account of the German assault on the French fortress, the aim of which was not so much to defeat the enemy as to bleed him to death. The price was 700,000 dead on a 15 mile front. The author also wrote "The Fall of Paris: The Siege and the Commune 1870-71" and "A Savage War of Peace".Alistair Horne has eighteen books to his credit. He is a student at St. Oxford's Antony's College Horne received the French Legion d'Honneur in 1993 and a knighthood in 2003 for his contributions to French history.
