Pride and Perjury by Jonathan Aitken
In 1994, Jonathan Aitken was hotly tipped to succeed John Major as the next leader of the Conservative Party, but within a year, he was buried beneath accusations of pimping, arms dealing and corruption. In this text, he tells how he became the most vilified politician in Britain.
Jonathan Aitken was a Fleet Street journalist in the 1960s. In 1974 he became a Conservative MP, and was appointed as Minister of State for Defence in 1992. He joined the Cabinet as Chief Secretary to the Treasury in 1994. His shock resignation came in 1995.
