Pride of the Hearts by Derek Niven

HEROES OF MORE THAN A FOOTBALL FIELD

Continuing Derek Niven's popular and successful 'Pride Series', Pride of the Hearts tells the fateful and tragic histories of the 16 Hearts players who signed up for McCrae's Battalion, the 16th Royal Scots, during the Great War. Learn of the desperate battles they fought on the Somme and at Arras, too many of them paying the ultimate sacrifice. The book also gives a fascinating insight into the genealogical histories of the Hearts players, taking the reader back into the players' Scottish, English and Irish ancestries.

Pride of the Hearts commemorates the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Royal British Legion in 1921. It follows on from Pride of the Lions, Pride of the Jocks and Pride of the Bears all published by Derek Niven.

Niven, Derek: - Derek Niven is a pseudonym used by the author John McGee, a member of ASGRA, in the publication of his factual genealogical writings and Derek Beaugarde for his fictional science fiction writings. John McGee, aka 'The Two Dereks', was born in 1956 in the railway village of Corkerhill, Glasgow and he attended Mosspark Primary and Allan Glen's schools. The late great actor Sir Derek Bogarde spent two unhappy years at Allan Glen's when he was a pupil named Derek Niven van den Bogaerde, thus the observant reader will readily be able to discern the origin of the two pseudonyms. After spending 34 years in the rail industry in train planning and accountancy John McGee retired in 2007. In 2012 the idea for his apocalyptic science fiction novel first emerged and 2084: The End of Days (c) Derek Beaugarde was published by Corkerhill Press in 2016. This was followed by Pride of the Lions (c) Derek Niven published by Corkerhill Press in 2017 and Pride of the Jocks (c) Derek Niven, foreword by Kathleen Murdoch, published by Corkerhill Press in 2018. The third book in the series is Pride of the Bears published by Corkerhill Press in 2020.
