Butler, J. Thomas: - J. Thomas Butler, a Certified Health Education Specialist, spent more than 35 years in higher education. With a doctorate in Health Education from The University of Tennessee, he last served as senior faculty member in the Community Health and Health Education programs at Delaware State University. He has published in several professional journals and has authored textbooks that were well-received in the academic community. Tom has served as a trainer and consultant to the BEST Foundation for a Drug-Free Tomorrow as well as providing active leadership in numerous community and professional organizations. He was a member of the Competency Update Project Advisory Committee and a co-writer of A Competency-Based Framework for Health Educators - 2006, the document that serves as the basis for professional certification, program accreditation and approval, and academic program development. His honors include Fellowship in the American School Health Association and honorary membership in the Delaware State University Alumni Association.
