With a history like no other in America, Provincetown already had been the sacred ground of Thorwald, the Icelandic Viking in 1004. But beginning in the seventeenth, it evolved through a five centuries continuum; it would become the first to welcome the Pilgrims before they traveled on to that "Rock" they're always talking about. It would become the largest whaling and British Revolutionary War staging port, the largest artist colony and producer of more Pulitzer Prizes for its combined literatures before being dubbed the most popular gay resort in the world. The Provincetown Film Festival kicks off the summer season every year, and grows with the annual blessing of the Portuguese fishing fleet. It seems to hit its stride by the 4th of July, "Bear Week" and "Carnival"-P'town's take on Marti Gras-with its "fabulous" parade and winds up with the "over the top" Halloween Costume Ball. All of this under the glow of a 252 foot granite block illuminated Pilgrim's Monument, a replicated fourteenth century Italian tower. What is phenomenal, it is still a quaint little New England seaside fishing village!
Frank Muzzy serves on the Board of Directors of the Stella Adler Theatre and Academy of Acting in Los Angeles, and he has been curator of numerous photographic retrospectives. A Washington resident since 1996, he has produced six photographic exhibits of his own work and is a founding member of the Pulp DC team, currently serving as its gallery manager.
