Psychoanalysis and Buddhism by Jeremy D Safran

What a wonderful book Jeremy Safran has assembled an absolutely stellar group of writers and has himself contributed an illuminating introduction. The essays are riveting and the book is the rare edited collection with real thematic unity. If you think you might have an interest in the intersection of psychoanalysis and Buddhism, this is the place to start. If you already know you're interested, once you look at the table of contents you'll find (at least I did) that you want to let Psychoanalysis and Buddhism displace whatever you were going to read next.--Donnel B. Stern, PhD, author of Unformulated Experience and editor of Contemporary Psychoanalysis

Jeremy D. Safran, PhD, is a professor of psychology at the New School for Social Research in New York City and the former director of clinical training. He also works at Beth Israel Medical Center as a senior research scientist. He is also a member of the New York University postdoctoral program in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, as well as the Stephen A. Schwarzman Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. Mitchell Center for Relational Studies is a non-profit organization dedicated to the study of relationships. He's also the former president of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.

Dr. Safran serves on the editorial boards of Psychotherapy Research and Psychoanalytic Psychology and is an associate editor for the journal Psychoanalytic Dialogues. Navigating the Therapeutic Alliance: A Relational Treatment Guide, Emotion in Psychotherapy, The Therapeutic Alliance in Brief Psychotherapy, Interpersonal Process in Cognitive Therapy, and Psychoanalysis and Buddhism: An Unfolding Dialogue are just a few of his publications. Dr. Safran and his colleagues have been studying therapeutic impasses for the past two decades, with funding from the National Institute of Mental Health. He's also noted for his work on emotion in psychotherapy and for incorporating Buddhist psychology elements into psychoanalysis and psychotherapy.
