Pure Cork by Michael Lenihan
Cork today is a prosperous and international city, recently voted one of the top ten cities in the world by Lonely Planet, visited by thousands every year and loved by its inhabitants. From a medieval walled town to a bustling port and now a modern, thriving city, Cork's landscape has changed enormously in the last 300 years. This unique collection of Cork memorabilia visually captures Cork's evolution in a selection of advertisments, maps, sketches, postcards and photographs which has taken many years to collect. From horse transport to the early motor car, trams to buses, steam locomotives to ships, people, buildings and streetscapes, this compilation of rare photographs and contemporary documents combines to illustrate the intruiging social and historical development of the city. The author's enthusiasm for his city is reflected throughout this stunning book and is indeed 'Pure Cork' boy!
Michael Lenihan is a native of Cork who lives and works in the city. An avid collector of Cork memorabilia, he owns a large library of Cork books, photographs, postcards and maps which have taken over forty years to amass. His previous book, 'Hidden Cork' was published in 2009.
