The Quarter Horse by Ann Hyland
This book tells the story of America's fastest and most popular breed, traditionally the racehorse and the ranch horse of the west. The author explains the origins of the breed, named for its extraordinary speed over a quarter of a mile, and the setting up of the American Quarter Horse Association: the history of the breed in Britain is covered and the horses and people who have influenced its popularity are introduced.
Ann Hyland has bred and trained quarter horses, many of which have reached championship standard. She won the first National Championship in Western Pleasure and became a member of the first Council of the British Quarter Horse Association in 1975. She is now a full-time writer and judge for the British Quarter Horse Association.
