
Brian May CBE, PhD, ARCS, FRASI is a world-renowned guitarist, songwriter, producer, and performer who was a founding member of Queen. When Queen's popularity first erupted in 1974, Brian was compelled to abandon his doctorate studies at Imperial College London. He has always had a strong interest in astronomy and has been a regular contributor to BBC TV's monthly astronomy program, The Sky at Night, hosted by Sir Patrick Moore. In 2006, he returned to astrophysics research and received his PhD in 2007. He is the Chancellor of John Moores University and a patron of the Mercury Phoenix Trust and the British Bone Marrow Donor Association, among others.
