Quilt Stories by Sylvia Gallagher
Quilt Stories is fundamentally a memoir of a woman who has the heart, soul, and determination of an avid birdwatcher & recordist, an explorer, a passionate artist, disciplined scientist, and dedicated teacher. As she and her husband traveled around North America, her husband would photograph birds in all sorts of interesting habitats. She would then create her embroidery art, or "needle-painting" from these photographs: colorful, lifelike renderings of birds, hand-embroidered as a quilt square. She created her Birds of North America quilt from these squares, where each state & province in North America is represented by a bird with a special memory for her in that location. She has finally recorded all those stories into a richly illustrated book. The storytelling behind each quilt square describes a memorable experience in each of the 60 states, provinces, and territories in North America where the author spent considerable time. The stories vividly depict the adventure & beauty in the world of birds, their behaviors, and the natural landscapes where they live, while traveling & camping in a trailer all across the United States & Canada. In addition to these richly illustrated stories, she has included a detailed tutorial with step-by-step instructions, for those who may want to try their hand at hand-embroidering realistic and colorful images from photographs.| SKU | Unavailable |
