The husband wife phenom pair of Bill and weeks has put modern-style quilts in the mags for yearsWith this, their second book, they're actually defining classic style. This book is absolutely gorgeous in its photography and presentation, and the quilts are to die for! The projects are clean and simple but subtly sophisticated and very approachable for all skill levels. And, there is a good range of techniques throughout so there's no boredom. One of favs is Birds On A Wire, featuring hand appliqued finches as seen from Bill and Week's kitchen window. Another fav is Fashion District, a beautiful blend of bold prints in an arrangement that will have you diving into your face fabrics like yesterday! Confession time: many of the mod quilts around today notably use a lot of solid fabrics. At first glance, we saw these beauties live at Fall Quilt Market last year, and they're actually made of tone-on-tone prints, some very small and delicate with very little color contrast. The effect this creates in the quilts is soft and warm, and it's a design lesson we're taking to heart.

Quilts Made Modern Authors Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle of FunQuilts are two of my favorite contemporary quilt designers. What I love most about their work is the thoughtful approach they take to designing. And they articulate their theories of quilt design in the first 45 pages of the book. I find my self reading and re-reading it in order to take it all in. In a word, it’s brilliant! I can’t decide which of the 10 quilt projects I want to make first, but if you find yourself repeating a favorite color combo, don’t miss the page titled “Climbing Out of a Palette Rut.” It’s priceless advice.

This is your 'go-to' book for contemporary quilt making as it offers sophisticated style, simple piecing, multiple sizes, alternative colour ways and design tips for all the ten projects. There is information about colour theory, fabric selection and elements of design and some really striking new-look quilts here. This book is well worth a look if you need to make a more modern quilt for a young adult.
