The Rabbits' Rebellion by Ariel Dorfman
The Chief Wolf has decreed that rabbits no longer exist and when he appoints a monkey as his official state photographer the monkey knows his own safety is at risk - he can't stop those supposedly non existent, fluffy tailed creatures from appearing in his photographs.
A very high profile writer for adults, Ariel Dorfman is an exile from the Pinochet regime in Chile, the child of Holocaust refugees. He has written several well known plays about repression and dictatorship, including DEATH AND THE MAIDEN (filmed by Roman Polanski). His last novel, THE NANNY AND THE ICEBERG, was published in the UK in Autumn 1999 and was very widely and well reviewed in the broadsheets. His autobiography, HEADING NORTH, LOOKING SOUTH was recently published and he has a new play, PURGATORY, opening in London in Spring 2003.
