Rachael: A Remarkable Child Explorer by Joyce Buxton
Rachael: A Remarkable Child Explorer continues the story of that intrepid adventurer, my `granddaughter’, Rachael Moseley. Of course, Rachael has never stopped having adventures but continues with the same infectious enthusiasm to explore the many different landscapes in the UK and abroad with her devoted and proud dad, Ian. This book records her further adventures with her dad and includes her three tremendous Coast to Coast endeavours. Read about Rachael’s adventures on the West Highland Way and Hadrian’s Wall then travel with her along Iceland’s spectacular south coast. Explore the majestic Nepal Himalaya, the Pokhara and Annapurna regions and the historic Kathmandu Valley and learn, as Rachael did, about the lifestyle, culture and beliefs of the gentle, friendly Nepalese people.
JOYCE BUXTON is a Derbyshire `girl’ – now happily retired to the Peak District. A Rotarian for many years, Joyce is now a member of The Rotary Club of Bakewell, where she serves on Youth and International Committees, helping people locally, nationally and internationally. Joyce’s club works with The Rotary Club of Kathmandu Metro, supporting a village in the Himalayan foothills and orphanages in Nepal as well as participating in numerous worldwide projects. A few years ago, she was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship: ` In appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world.’ She is also International Ambassador of F.I.N.C.H. – Friends International Network of Children’s Homes, founded by her friend, and Rachael’s dad, Ian Moseley. It is a network of like-minded people who care for vulnerable children all over the world. Joyce is an ex-nurse and a retired schoolteacher and has walked most of her life, completing many of the long distance walks in the UK, including The Pennine Way, The West Highland Way, Hadrian’s Wall and, like Rachael, three memorable Coast to Coast crossings. She has also successfully undertaken many hard treks in Nepal including the Everest Circuit and Everest Base Camp, the Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Base Camp, twice – the last time at the age of seventy-eight.
