Railway Maps of the World by Mark Ovenden
The book is inspired by a mother-son relationship, and it shows that moms can be the support, the teacher, the friend, and the role model all in one. In a perfect world, every child would have both parents present, but oftentimes, that is not the case. This book hopes to inspire women to be unafraid of taking on the challenge of raising their boys the best way they know how. We all go through similar situations. It can be tough at times, but we can be their superheroes and do it all. This book is a glimpse of the relationship between Bianca and her son.Mark Ovenden, who was born in London in 1963, developed an early interest in trains and television that has persisted with him throughout his life. After college, he worked in local government and on the radio, promoting progressive attitudes toward gay problems, until landing a full-time job as a producer at BBC Radio 1. He began working as a freelance Music Programmer for MTV in 1998, when he founded another production firm that went on to produce shows for Atlantic252. Mark was eventually hired as a presenter of a weekly record review show alongside Chris Coco, as well as a specialized programs producer and later a breakfast newsreader, at the station. Mark moved to Ministry Of Sound after Atlantic252 wound down, where he helped develop up their DAB station, Ibiza unit, and later, as Head of Radio, operated a popular FM version of the station.
Following this, Mark went into consulting, working with Purple radio and the DRG. He moved to a nascent TV station as Channel Manager in 2002, while still working on his book project in his leisure time. Metro Maps of the World, by Mark Ovenden, was published in November 2003 to considerable acclaim. It has now been rewritten and updated for the US market, and is now titled Transport Maps of the Globe and published by Penguin.
Mark is currently based in Paris, where he is working on his second book, which will cover the history of the Paris Metro system over a century. He's also working on a radio sitcom and a TV travel show, in addition to many other book ideas.
