The Real History Of Hawaii by Brien Foerster

I wrote this book because I could not find a good guide in Hawaii or anywhere else that told the story of the origins, culture and customs of the Hawaiians prior to the arrival of Captain Cook. I spent 2 years on Maui involved in the creation of a 62 foot Hawaiian voyaging sailing canoe, and learned many things about the Hawaiians during that time. The vast majority of books written about Hawaii focus on the time period after Captain James Cook's arrival in the 18th century, missing out on several hundred, if not thousands of years of the Hawaiians' lives and cultural prior to that. Where did they come from? How did they get there? Was there one migration from a homeland? Or many? What is a Kahuna? This book tries to answer these questions and many, many more.
