During the early part of the 20th century, fishing still formed one of the main industries in the famous corner of Fife. Belle Patrick spent her first 30 years in Anstruther, and in the mid-1960s wrote this memoir to put on record the fishing way of life, believing it to be so independent.
Belle Patrick was born on in 1895 and died in 1956. Her father worked in the fishing industry. Patrick Collinson, the son of Belle, is Regius Professor of Modern History at the University of Cambridge.
