Reuben and the Amazing Mind Machine by Jonathan M Hughes
Reuben's grandfather (Gramps), a retired professor of neuroscience, builds a machine that can be programmed to change people's behaviour. To make Reuben 'Believe' in the machine, 'Gramps' tries it out on a pompous next-door neighbour. Apart from a few glitches, the machine seems to work successfully.
Jonathan M Hughes was brought up in a strict religious environment with no television and relied on his imagination. At 33, he attended the London Guildhall University and achieved a BSc (Hons) in Musical Instrument Technology. He currently works as a piano tuner and is based in Haywards Heath.
