The period 1913-23 in Dublin encompassed the Lockout, the Home Rule debates, the First World War, the Easter Rising, the War of Independence and the Civil War. These iconic events not only created the Ireland we live in today, but also helped generate change around the world. In these years Ireland went from being a loyal dominion of Great Britain to being the country that would initiate the demise of her Empire. Liz Gillis is from Dublin and worked as a local history researcher in the St. Nicholas of Myra centre from 2004 to 2006, during which time she collaborated on a number of exhibitions relating to the history of Dublin. She also organises walking tours on the history of the Dublin 8 area. She is the author of 'The Fall of Dublin', part of Mercier's Military History of the Irish Civil War series and 'Women of the Irish Revolution 1913-1923'.
