He studied English and taught in London, Hampshire, and the Midlands before co-founding and running an educational publishing company with his wife, Sally. In addition to creating novels, Phill has collaborated on several children's activity books. Phill lives with Sally in a Pennine farmhouse, where he writes, walks, reads, and works to preserve the upland hay meadows that surround his home.
