Riding Western by Jane Lake
"Riding Western" introduces the newcomer to the basics of Western riding, including the conversion of the 'English' horse and rider. Every aspect of this style of riding, the equipment, the clothing and the Spanish nomenclature is carefully explained, as is the history and reasoning behind it.
Western riding and its history has been an all-consuming passion for Jane Lake from an early age. Having ridden Western for the first time in America at the age of sixteen, she realised at once that the classical style in which she had been trained would become her secondary equestrian interest. Enthusiasm and experience developed, and for 2 years she taught at, and assisted to run, a Western stable in Southern Spain. Jane Lake stresses that however Western riding develops today, particularly for the show ring, it should not be severed from its historical roots.
